It was my honour to be invited by Mr Ng Teng Joo, the Principal, to attend my alma mater's National Day Celebrations as the Guest of Honour on Wednesday 8 August 2007.
On that day I could not help reminisce about the old days and how things have changed in Henry Park.
Indeed, Henry Park has progressed from an unknown primary school with 287 pupils in 1977 to one of the top-ranking mega-schools with over 2,000 pupils within three decades. This would not have been possible without the prudent planning by the school's management and the outstanding leadership of our various principals. Last but not least we have to thank our teachers who have contributed tremendously to the school's success through their hard work and dedication in nurturing us, their pupils over the years. I am proud to have been a pupil here.
I remember when I was a pupil here; we were all packed in an 'H' shaped four-storey block. We only had a one-storey non air-conditioned hall-cum-canteen and a basketball court. Indeed, our pupils nowadays are very fortunate today to study in Henry Park's modern campus with the latest technology and facilities.
However, I hope that those of us who graduate from Henry Park Primary School, will remember our alma mater, just like the Chinese idiom - 'Yin Shuai Si Yuan' - literally translated as 'when you drink water, remember its source'. Hopefully more former pupils of Henry Park will come forward and make contributions towards it one day.
